Using Google Shopping Comparison To Find Great Deals

There is no doubt that Google is the leading search engine but did you know that Google offers the ability to compare prices for online (and offline) stores that sell the same product? If you know how to properly filter through the results you will be able to find the lowest price on practically everything you are after.

Google’s shopping results can be found either by visiting their shopping section (also called Google’s Product Comparison) directly. Conversely you can access their shopping section by searching directly on Google and then clicking on the Shopping link on the left hand menu. Once you have entered their shopping section you will see listings of the same product available from many different retailers. These results can be filtered to find the store that offers the lowest price.

On the left hand menu you can filter the products using several options. You can require the product to be offered in a nearby physical store, you can require the product to be available with free shipping, you can even define a price range for the product. Once you have these options selected Google will return the products (and stores) that meet your requirements.

One of my favorite ways of finding a place to buy a specific product at the lowest price is by filtering the returned product results by price, from lowest to highest. A nice built-in feature Google has when returning their product results is the fact that the majority of retailers also list their shipping prices. This allows you to see if the price of the product and shipping is the lowest.

Should Website Design Firms Suggest Adding Google Checkout to E-Commerce Clients?

Google has a host of great applications and services, all designed to make Internet browsing and shopping user-friendly. One service that Google offers is called Google Checkout, and it makes buying and selling on the Internet very convenient because shoppers just have to enter a user name and password in order to make a purchase. Much like PayPal or Verisign, the logo, a blue shopping cart, signifies security and trusted monetary exchange. Shoppers who browse items in Google Shopping can click the blue logo and never even have to visit the merchant’s website. It is not only easy, but it is convenient too. The question becomes, is it also good business for Maryland Web Design firms to suggest adding the Google Checkout process to their e-commerce clients?

After more than four years of use, what do e-commerce sites have to say about the impact of adding Checkout to their cart solutions? Google say that this can increase Click Through Rate on AdWords by 10% if Google Checkout is also offered. Based on the comments on blogs and forums, many merchants agree with Google, stating that they also see a return on investment from Google Checkout, and that it provides a safe buying experience for their customers. Another compelling reason for adding Checkout to your client’s e-commerce solutions is that a few simple searches on Google Shopping shows all the many, many merchants that have already included the feature.

This alone is compelling evidence for Maryland Website Design firms to encourage their e-commerce clients to add Google Checkout options to their carts, especially if they already spend money advertising with Google, or uses the Google product search feed. Once integrated with Checkout, the cart, the AdWords ad, and the Google Product Search listing will show the little blue Checkout symbol beside all these items. In addition, the listings will also show Seller Ratings, which are compelling symbols that shoppers trust.

Google suggests explaining the advantages of Google Checkout on your website, stressing the ease in shopping, the ease in signing up for Checkout, the ease of tracking your orders, and the security of knowing that Google protects you from unauthorized purchases. Google Checkout protects the shopper and the seller because the Checkout’s Payment Guarantee allows merchants to get paid even if the order results in a chargeback.

Google has even added an “overview video” that provides a quick introduction to Google Checkout that they encourage website owners to link to from their websites, and they have written an email that website owners can send to their lists explaining the Checkout advantages in an effort to get Google Checkout wider acceptance.

It is very easy for a merchant to start using Google Checkout. All that is required is that the merchant offers physical goods for sale, follow the Google Product Search Program Policies and the Content Policies, have a billing address in the US (not a P.O. box), have a US bank account, and supply either a Social Security Number or Tax Identification Number.

One of the main advantages of using Google Checkout is its integration with AdWords. This means that you can get preferred pricing on a number of services – and even automatically pay transaction fees with earnings from your AdWords account. Additionally, when your ad is displayed on other Web pages and in search engine results, a shopping cart icon appears so that it is easy to see that you accept Checkout, offering a possible way to increase sales.

Of course all merchants should carefully consider their needs before deciding on using Google Checkout, but it is definitely a service that Maryland Web Design companies should discuss with their e-commerce clients.

The bottom line is that as a Maryland Website Developer, you should recommend the addition of Google Checkout to all your e-commerce clients and provide them with enough information so that they can decide whether to add the service to their shopping carts.
